Why STEAM & Children’s Literature?

Teaching STEAM in the early years enables children to make those vital connections between everyday life and the STEAM disciplines. It also lays down the foundations for future academic success because the skills learned are transferable to other subjects.

Children’s literature is important because it enhances the development of language skills and other critical thinking skills that provide the foundation of learning. Books offer “windows” into worlds that many would never physically visit and encourage students to consider situations that would never have occurred to them.

Why diverse characters?

Representation can be incredibly inspirational. It enables children to envision things possibilities for their own lives that may not be naturally around them. Representation helps extend our kids’ imaginations to see themselves in the characters – it singles to the reader their identity and experiences are valued.
